Connections To Employment Program

Program Overview

Have you struggled to find work in Canada? If the answer is ‘YES!’, then let Solomon College’s Connection To Employment Program help you. Our intensive employment focused program will prepare you with the workplace skills you need to attract Canadian employers, we will support you to acquire the safety certificates that Canadian industries are looking for, and we will work with you one on one to master the step by step process needed to search for and retain employment in Canada.

Applicant Eligibility

To be eligible for the Connections To Employment program, you must:

  • Be a permanent resident of Canada or Convention Refugee, or be a person in Canada whose application for Permanent Resident status is being processed in Canada and who has been informed by a letter from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada of the initial approval of your application subject to an admissibility assessment (this means you have approval-in-principle);
  • Be at least 18 years old;

You are not eligible for the Connections To Employment program if you are a:

  • Canadian citizen
  • Refugee claimant
  • Temporary resident (such as foreign student, foreign worker or visitor)

Connections To Employment program

The Connections To Employment program is a 16 week integrated language and workplace training which includes 8 weeks of in-class training and 8 weeks of job coaching with support to find employment. The program focuses on occupations within the retail industry: customer service, merchandiser, meat-cutting and bakery assistant.

The four program components include:

1. Workplace essential skills

The program will help you build skills for the workplace:

  1.  Reading
  2.  Document Use
  3.  Numeracy
  4.  Writing
  5.  Oral Communication
  6.  Working with Others
  7.  Thinking
  8.  Digital Technology
  9.  Continuous Learning

2. Occupational specific language

The program will teach you vocabulary and language for customer service, merchandising, working in a deli, and in a bakery.

3. Workplace safety (WHMIS & First aid)

The program will help you get certificates in food safety, WHMIS, and first-aid.

4. Job coaching with support to find employment

The program will help you to write cover letters, resumes, apply for jobs online, and prepare you for phone and in-person interviews.

To Apply

Please send the following documents to

  1.  Complete application form and submit to Solomon College
  2.  Permanent Resident ID
  3.  Provide copy of CLB 4 Certificate of Completion or original CLBPT Client Profile from LARCC indicating CLB 4 or higher in listening, speaking, reading, and writing
  4.  Successfully pass interview for the Connections to Employment program*

Interviews will be conducted a month before the start date

Once documents have been received and processed, and applicants have successfully passed the interview, Solomon College will provide a Letter of Acceptance to the Connections to Employment program.
