Frequently Asked Quesetions
1. Will Solomon College arrange the co-op placement for me?
Students are responsible for arranging their own co-op placement, including sending out resumes and cover letters, arranging an interview and working out the details of the co-op placement with their employer. However, if students have difficulty finding a co-op placement, they should let the Program Coordinator know as soon as possible so she can help them find a suitable placement.
2. Will I get paid for the co-op?
Solomon College cannot guarantee that co-op placements will be paid. Co-op placements may be paid or unpaid. Students are asked to work out these details directly with their employers.
3. If I currently have a job, can I continue working there for my co-op?
Yes. As long as you are currently working in the hospitality field (hotel/restaurant), you may continue working at your current job to fulfill the co-op requirements. However, please be aware that the co-op does not officially begin until a contract is signed between you, the co-op placement and Solomon College.
4. I want to work the front desk/concierge desk/in housekeeping, etc. Is this possible?
Students apply for an advertised position at a hotel or restaurant that will serve as their co-op. Although it is recommended that you work in different areas of your co-op placement, this is not always possible since hospitality is seasonal. If you are interested in working in a different area of the hotel/restaurant, it is recommended that you approach your supervisor about potential cross-training opportunities. You are encouraged to communicate your co-op expectations during the interview for the position you are applying for.
